THE Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council is urging residents in the county to be aware of cold callers touting for work.

There have been several incidents recently where elderly people have been tricked into paying £11,000 for shoddy work by laying tar in the driveway. These rogue traders travel in vehicles sometimes touting for scrap or other odd-jobs.

Leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “I would urge people to be aware of rogue traders and to warn elderly relatives, friends and neighbours not to sell anything to cold callers, not buy anything or to offer work to strangers.”

Members of the public should report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the police telephone number 101.
