FOUR people have been fined for dog fouling offences along the Millennium Coastal Path between Pembrey and Llanelli.

Council environmental enforcement officers issued fixed penalty notices for £75. If they do not pay, they could be taken to court and fined up to £1,000.

Dog owners are now reminded to carry bags on them at all times and that it is not an excuse if their dogs are off the lead and they do not see it foul.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “All four people fined were from the local area and should know better.

“Our officers are very proactive; this is because keeping the county clean is a top priority for the council and for residents.

“Not only is dog mess unpleasant but it is major health hazard. We will do all we can to catch those responsible.”

Cllr Jones said some dog owners were picking up their dog’s mess but then leave the bag on the ground or hanging from a tree branch.

“Dog bags should be disposed of in a public litter bin and if there is not one nearby then take it home to dispose of or keep it with you until you pass one. It is impossible to have a bin on every corner. If you have a dog then it is your responsibility to clean up after it and dispose of the mess correctly,” he added.
