THREE people have been fined for dropping litter in Llanelli and Burry Port.

A 44-year-old man from Cross Hands was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 by council environmental enforcement officers for leaving drinks can on the wall near the entrance to Sports Direct in Llanelli.

A further fixed penalty notice was issued to a 32-year-old Llanelli woman for dropping a cigarette end in Stepney Street in the town centre.

Finally a 20-year-old Burry Port man was fined for throwing a cigarette end out of his car in the harbour car park in Burry Port.

Failure to pay could result in prosecution in court and a maximum fine of up to £2,500.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he hoped these fines would act as a warning to others.

He said: “Dropping litter is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. Our enforcement officers carry out patrols across the county and anyone caught dropping litter will be fined.

“The council is working hard to keep the county clean and we will not hesitate to take action against those people spoiling it for others.”
