Monday night is the night for the Riverside Boat club at the Loughor Boating Club. It is an open mic night, hosted by Mav Bowen. The estuary really was the star of the show early on, providing a glorious early summer backdrop.
The music soon took it’s part in the evening however. Mav treated us to a traditional tune, he made up as he went along! The regular openers, The Choirboys were not there, as Rob was away, however, John showed his vocal & musical skill.
I played three self-penned songs, one of which was inspired by the estuary so was entirely appropriate.
A new folk trio, at least, two thirds of it, was there, The Empty Shed Experience. They are: Ron Savory on guitar & vocals, Eileen Boyt & Amy Webber on vocals. Only Ron & Eileen were there, but it bodes well for the full experience! They did a cover, an original and a surprise. They are featuring on the Acoustic Show on Radio Tircoed this Friday evening, 106.5 fm, www.radiotircoed.com . The show has introduced a feature where guests have to sing a song from a different genre, in the style of their own genre. Sounds complicated? It works. I will not spoil the surprise by telling you what they sang, you will have to tune in to find out. I will, however, tell you that it is a rock classic and was the best version of the song I, and others, have heard, including the original.
Eileen Boyt & Ron Savory of The Empty Shed Experience.
The evening continued with David Morgan David is a great guitarist & singer. He plays un amplified & un-miced. The audience fell silent to hear every nuance of his performance.
