In an effort to tackle the anti-social and dangerous riding of motorcycles with a view to reduce road traffic casualties, officers from Dyfed Powys Roads Policing Unit conducted an operation over the last two weekends targeting those roads used by that small minority of motorcycle enthusiasts who show little regard to road safety.
The fine weather drew a lot of bikers into the county and several offences were detected, including:
- 2 motorcycles reported for excess speed 85mph & 78mph in a 60 speed limit area near Llandovery.
- 1 motorcycle reported for overtaking on solid white lines
- 4 Motorcycles reported for undersized number plates
- 23 motorcyclists given words of advice for excessive speed which was lower than the prosecuting threshold.
Positive action was also taken against car drivers showing disregard to road safety in the same areas.
- 13 Car drivers reported for excessive speeds
- 2 car drivers reported for excessive tint on windows
- 1 driver reported for driving whilst using a mobile phone
âWe appreciate that motorcyclists and other motorists enjoy driving on our roads in Dyfed Powys and the vast majority ride safely and within the law,â said Sergeant Ian Price. âBut we have a job to do and that is to ensure that our roads are safe for all road users as well as to keep bikers safe. And over the coming months, Roads Policing Officers will continue to take positive action with similar operations within Dyfed Powys.â
âThis need to keep our roads safe has been highlighted this last weekend following a fatal road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist on the A40 near Brecon and a serious collision involving another motorcycle on the A488 at Monaughty near Knighton on Monday 6th May. Investigations into both these collisions are continuing, and I would appeal for anyone with information on either of them to get in touch.
