The weather’s finally getting warmer and bathing season is just around the corner so Keep Wales Tidy is asking communities across Wales to get together to tidy up our beaches

Clean Coasts Week takes place from 13 to 19 May 2013 and is sponsored by McDonald’s whose restaurant staff will join local community groups, schools and businesses in events across the country to clear beaches of unwanted litter and debris.

Staff from McDonald’s in Cross Hands will join Keep Wales Tidy at Cefn Sidan beach on 16th May. There they will spend the day morning cleaning the beach alongside other volunteers to make sure that local residents and visitors have an enjoyable trip to the seaside.

Keep Wales Tidy needs more volunteers to sign up and groups who register will receive an information pack which will give them all the support you need to organise a clean-up.

Robert Thomas, McDonald’s Operations Consultant in Carmarthenshire says:

“McDonald’s has a long standing relationship with Keep Wales Tidy and we are delighted to support Clean Coasts Week here in Cefn Sidan.”

“It is important to set a good example in tackling litter and my restaurants conduct daily litter patrols in the surrounding areas. Unfortunately there are still a significant proportion of people who think it’s acceptable to drop litter – it’s everyone’s responsibility to keep our communities clean.

“With an enviable stretch of beautiful coast line, we must all work together to protect and maintain its beauty and continue to preserve our local environment here in Wales.”

Dan Snaith, Keep Wales Tidy officer for Carmarthenshire comments:

“The coastline is very important for Wales as it can boost local economies and the tourism industry and allows us to showcase our beautiful country. Keep Wales Tidy has organised Clean Coast Week to ensure that we maintain the high standard of our coastline. I hope that people from across Wales can spend a few hours at their nearest coastal area to ensure that locals and visitors can continue to enjoy our natural surroundings.”

Keep Wales Tidy needs more volunteers to sign up and there’s still time to register an event. Groups who register will receive an information pack which will give you all the support you need to organise a clean-up.
