Huw Lewis, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, has announced the appointment of Professor David Adamson and Rhian Davies to the Welsh Government’s Tackling Poverty External Advisory Group (Fri 10th May).

During his 25-year academic career Professor Adamson has specialised in the research, analysis and understanding of poverty in Wales.

Rhian Davies has worked for several local and national disability organisations and is the chief executive of Disability Wales.

The group is made up of experts from a range of fields who advise the government on tackling poverty in Wales. In the past year they have met with government departments and given advice on a range of issues to the Minister, including the recent consultation on the next round of European Structural Funds.

Welcoming the new members to the group the Minister said:

“I am committed to taking action to build strong, resilient communities and lift people out of poverty. Members of this independent panel bring their expertise and insight into a range of subjects and contribute to ensuring we deliver benefits to everyone in Wales.

“I look forward to the opportunity of meeting the new members and discussing my plans for the future.”

The group next meets in June. They will be discussing ways to tackle fuel poverty, including the Welsh Government‘s Arbed scheme which will improve the energy efficiency of at nearly 11,000 homes in Wales by the end of 2015.
