A blue plaque in memory of singer Dorothy Squires is to be unveiled on Monday 20th May by ‘Hi de hi actress Ruth Madoc.
Dorothy Squires was a singing sensation of the fifties and was also the wife of Sir Roger Moore, who has kindly sponsored the plaque.
Squires was born in Pontyberem in 1915 and the plaque has been placed on her family home in Dafen, where her father purchased Aston House, New Road in 1928.
The event has been organised by Llanelli Community Heritage (LLCH) and they have said:
“We are thrilled to have actress Ruth Madoc, of Hi-de-Hi! fame, attending the ceremony as she is currently playing Squires on stage in Say it With Flowers.”
Lyn John, Vice Chairman of LLCH added:
“This is another fantastic achievement for Llanelli Community Heritage following on from our other blue plaques for fellow Llanelli ‘showbiz’ stars. It’s an impressive list that includes Rachel Roberts, Ronnie Cass, Eleanor Daniels and Gareth Hughes!”
The unveiling will take place at Aston House, New Road, Dafen on Monday 20 May at 11am.
