Water pollution is a big problem in Wales and Keep Wales Tidy are asking communities in Wales to take part in the Yellow Fish Campaign which will take place throughout July 2013.
Yellow Fish is an awareness raising activity which highlights the damage caused by pouring oils, paints, solvents, chemicals or dirty water down highway gullies or surface drains. These drains will ultimately enter watercourses and toxic waste liquids poured down drains can seriously affect your local environment.
Yellow fish is very simple.
- Volunteers mark drains with a Yellow Fish.
- Awareness is raised locally by distributing leaflets and posters and contacting the local press.
Who can get involved?
Yellow Fish is a campaign aimed at the whole community and everyone can get involved. This is your chance to play a key role in improving and maintaining the quality of local watercourses.
How to organise a Yellow Fish Project?
Organising a Yellow Fish Project is really easy!
All you have to do is:
- Apply for a FREE Yellow Fish Kit via the online application system here
- Choose a safe area to mark drains and get permission from your local authority*
- Try and create as much attention to your project as possible
- Contact the local press to let them know what you are doing and why, let’s get people talking about water pollution!
Please Note:
You need permission from your local authority to take part in a Yellow Fish Project. The following local authorities have agreed to take part and you do not need to contact them. However, if you would like to take part and your local authority isn’t on the list below you need to contact the highways department letting them know that you would like to take part in a Yellow Fish Project.
Let Keep Wales Tidy know as well, we might be able to help. The more people who want to take part, the more likely it is that your local authority will join in.
