Four popular South Wales entertainers are getting together for ‘A Night of Music and Laughter’ for a landmark occasion at Mumbles Pier in Swansea.

It will be the final night of live entertainment at Mumbles Pier before the revamp of the attraction is completed.

Phil Evans, Laura Jayne, Dean Jones and Ignacio Lopez all enjoyed a very successful recent tour with top Welsh independent recording artist Paul Child.

“We had a wonderful time on tour with Paul Child and there’s been a lot of popular demand to get us to perform at a local venue in Swansea,” said Evans.

“This will be variety and comedy at its best. It’s an unique occasion. It’s the end of one era for the pier and the start of another.”

A Night of Music and Laughter is being staged at Mumbles Pier on Friday, June 21, 7.30pm.

Phil Evans is sometimes known as the ‘Hugmeister of Wales’ and the man who has put the ‘Cwtsh’ back into comedy.

He is a favourite warm-up comedian for TV shows on BBC, S4C and ITV. He recently appeared on Sky TV’s The Welsh Show. He regularly performs overseas and recent trips have taken him to the USA, Canada and Norway. He is soon to visit the Middle East.

Squeeze him for information on his favourite topic – the Welsh cwtsh (hug) – and he will explain why a cwtsh should always be spelt as ‘cwtsh’ and not ‘cwtch’.

Cheeky, but never crude or offensive, Evans produces a very Welsh brand of humour.

Ignacio Lopez is billed as ‘Half Spanish, Half Welsh, All Funny.’

The 25-year-old lives in Swansea. Lopez was chosen from thousands of comedians to appear on ITV’s ‘Show me the Funny’, hosted by Jason Manford.

He said: “Although I didn’t do too well in the competition it’s really made me appreciate how much better comedy can be ‘live’. I wasn’t my best on the TV show but part of that was how it was edited. The attraction of being a comedian is that you are the only person responsible for what you say on stage. You write and perform your own material and it’s up to you to deliver the goods.”

Laura Jayne is an up-and-coming country recording artist and is Swansea’s answer to Leanne Rimes!

Her first year as a professional singer has been a huge success, touring nationally with Paul Child and releasing a fantastic debut album entitled “Songbook”.

Having already appeared on TV programmes such as The Welsh Show and Sky’s Country Channel Music Express, Laura has an exciting future ahead and has already been approached by writers to record original material.

Dean Jones has a charismatic, high-energy approach to performing.

He is often mistaken for a young Tom Jones! His tribute will leave you thoroughly entertained!
