Parc y Scarlets will open its doors on Saturday, 22nd June, for a very special event as the region delves into the history books ahead of the launch of their Heritage Trail.

The focus of the new heritage trail project based at Parc y Scarlets is to inspire, safeguard and promote the great heritage and history of Scarlets rugby and its intrinsic links with Llanelli and people across the county. The trail will promote awareness of the link between local history and Llanelli Rugby Club in the form of a timeline spanning 140 years of rugby, industrial, local and national history.

Scarlets supporters are heroes one and all and we are inviting to the Open Day on Saturday to share their magic moments and memorabilia from supporting Llanelli and Scarlets throughout its 140 year history with us.

Donations and stories have already been flooding in from supporters right across the region ahead of the nostalgic day on Saturday.

One particular item of interest, a first aid box dated from the 1930’s, has this week been donated to the Heritage Trail by Alex Lewis of Llangennech.

Speaking to Nia Lloyd, Heritage Trail Project Manager, Mr Lewis said: “We recently found a First Aid Box whilst clearing out my grand-parents garage and is in great condition, the contents have been untouched for many many years with some items dated in the 1940’s. It’s a marvel to see what they first aiders/physio’s would carry back in those days!”

The Scarlets will now assist Mr Lewis in researching the life of his great-grandfather Leonard Jones who played such a vital role in Llanelli’s history.

Nia Lloyd added: “With over 140 years of history our supporters have undoubtedly collected many interesting items over the years and we thought it would be a fantastic idea to invite people along to an Open Day for supporters to share their stories and most treasured Scarlets possessions.

“Items like the first aid box are priceless in terms of their historical value and interest to the people of Llanelli and the wider Scarlets region. With the Heritage Trail opening later this year we are keen to see scrapbooks, photographs, letters and all other forms of Scarlets memorabilia. We would be delighted if people wanted to give or loan any items which we do not already possess.

“We believe that our memories are made of our supporters and would love to hear all of your stories. We would also be happy to photograph or copy anything which people do not want to part with.”

Come along and meet the heritage team at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday 22nd June from 10am – 2pm.

Why not stay and watch the British & Irish Lions take on Australia in the Heart & Soul Bar (kick-off 11.05am).

You can also send your stories, memories and any pictures you’d like to share of supporting the Scarlets over the years to heritage@scarlets.co.uk

The Scarlets have been supported in their plans and bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in a joint collaboration with Llanelli RFC, the former players association and Crys16, the Scarlets’ Supporters Trust along with support from stadium partners, Carmarthenshire County Council.
