Live Music  at the Masons Arms & at The Kazbar

By Trudi Goldsmith

At the Masons Arms was

Searching For David, The Knuckle DownsTexas Flood

As always the Masons Arms delivered a fantastic night with three great l live bands.

First band of the night was Searching for David who played some great originals and cover songs including an epic cover of my favourite ever Nirvana song Territorial Pissings. Catch Searching for David at the Llanelli Music Scene Band of the Month night on 29th June at the Kilkenny Cat from 7.30pm

Next up were  The Knuckle Downs put on a great foot tapping punk rock set with elements of Greenday and Rancid in their own original tunes.

Headlining band Texas Flood topped the bill for the night with a really well played good old rock and roll set that got the pub moving to the music . The pub tonight was filled with great musicians and each band that played complemented each other’s sound really well and everyone in the pub appeared to be having a good time listening to the bands.

At the Kazbar…

I then rushed down to the Kazbar to catch 27 Cobalt and A Sudden Disturbance at the Heyzeus Promotions gig

I arrived mid way through 27 Cobalt’s set. This gig was reported to be 27 Cobalt’s first gig in 16 years having recently re formed after a lengthy hiatus . Back in the 1990’s I had the pleasure of seeing this three piece band play live on numerous occasions and tonight they did themselves proud by putting on a solid set of both old and new original songs including their memorable song’ Twelve Rounds with Satan ‘ which is sung bilingually . Definitely a come back gig with a bang I would say with tight bass lines, catchy melodic tunes, skilled drumming and skilled guitar riffs all combined to produce 27 Cobalt’s great sound. Watch out for this band on the scene.

You can catch 27 Cobalt  play live at Glaston Fferi on Saturday 29th June at Ferryside Rugby Club.

Headlining at the Kazbar was ( ASD) A Sudden Disturbance . This trio are already set apart from any other bands I’ve seen tonight as instead of the use of a drummer they programme their drums into a laptop. After the first song of the set the mix of sound was adjusted and ASD launched into their song Forgotten Memories with vocalist Mike delivering his lines with a Ville Valo influence throughout the set. What I like about this group is that they cannot be pigeon holed musically and their vocal sound is topped with snippets of catchy music medleys’ that stay with you after first listen a la Decembers Call et al.

Catch ASD at the Kilkenny Cat at the Llanelli Music Scene Band of the Month night on Saturday 29th June at 7.30pm

check out all the above bands and The Masons Arms & The Kazbar  on their  facebook pages.
