A GROUP of young people have netted free fishing permits courtesy of Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Wallich – a charity which helps people who have become homeless or at risk of losing their home – approached the council’s Property Services department to ask for support to give young people a constructive group activity.
The grounds maintenance team obliged by providing six free permits, allowing the group to fish at Furnace, Old Castle, Dafen and Trostre ponds in Llanelli, and in two reservoirs in Carmarthen.
Henry Griffiths, Project Worker at The Wallich, said: “Without the donation of rods from Tackle Life, and of permits by Carmarthenshire County Council, activities like this remain out of reach for our charity, and the young people we support. We are so grateful for their donation and look forward to all the benefits it will bring.”
Cllr Colin Evans, Executive Board Member for Property Services, added: “We were pleased to be able to support this group of young people, who I’ve been fortunate to meet.
“They are obviously getting a lot out of the group fishing activities and are making the most of the permits.”
People fishing in Carmarthenshire County Council ponds must have a valid permit to ensure ponds are maintained and kept at a sustainable level, with quality fish which are monitored and re-stocked.
Permits also help to ensure a peaceful and safe environment is maintained for the enjoyment of anglers, and are only issued with a valid rod licence from the Environment Agency.
