Thought for the week (we 30th June 2013)

Wimbledon has become the pinnacle world lawn tennis competition with the eyes of the world on this London suburb which for two weeks every year has all tennis enthusiasts enthralled.

There have been some surprises this year and with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga out of the running it must be difficult for Andy Murray not to look too far ahead with at least some anticipation that this is going to be his year.

I met a few people last week who were going to Wimbledon and hoping to see some matches. For some it was an annual event, and even going up and back in a day was for them well worth it. On the other hand most tennis lovers are glued to their TV’s for the duration of the competition and how they enjoy it!

With her fifty inch TV and all around sound one eighty year old told me that she never missed a game and feels she is being treated like Royalty with the best seats at centre court as she sits in front of her TV. Then on finals day treating herself to strawberries and cream. In her view much better and far less expensive!

Holidays and tours to the Holy land are as popular as ever. The experience of actually being where Jesus walked and talked and miraculously changed the lives of so many is, for some, an uplifting and joyous experience. There were those, of course, who were there and faithfully wrote of what they saw and heard.

The Gospels faithfully and honestly record for us what actually happened so that we too are able to know the wonderful revelation of God’s love through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. With the added gift of the Holy Spirit Jesus is as near to us as he was to those who met with him and whose lives were changed. We’re in the centre court and front row as far as God is concerned – loved with an everlasting love – indeed it’s ‘Love all’
