RDP Sir Gar’s Mentro Project have organised a 24 hour business challenge for rural Carmarthenshire’s young entrepreneurs. The session will culminate in ideas being pitched to a Dragons Den style line up and the best presentation will win £2500 to invest in their business.
The competition is open to individuals or teams aged 16-30 years old and based in rural Carmarthenshire. Speakers including S4C’s presenter Heledd Cynwal, Tregroes Waffles’ Kees Huysman and Best of Carmarthenshire’s Diana Vickers will be at Llanarthne Hall giving tips on everything from networking and social media to presentation skills and web presence during the challenge.
Tomas Marks, Mentro project officer, said: “We have a fantastic assortment of experienced businesses who are very kindly giving their time to support and help develop the ideas of the new start-ups. Those taking part can look forward to gaining invaluable knowledge from our mentors as well as the possibility of winning our prize fund.”
Sponsorship for the prize money has come from local businesses Clay Shaw Butler Accountants, Castell Howell and LHPhillips Accountants.
Mentro is run by Menter Bro Dinefwr and is part of the RDP Sir Gâr Rural Entrepreneurship project, providing free business support to young people aged between 16 and 30. Funding for the project has come from the Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007 – 2013 through the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
They offer a free advice and guidance service on starting your own business and start-up loans and financial support available. They can also help with the creation of business plans and budgets.
