LLANDEILO has the potential to become the best market town in Wales with its new bypass.
Now the Welsh Government has agreed to fund the A483 Llandeilo and Ffairfach improvement, bypass campaigners are convinced Llandeilo is set to become the next Cowbridge which prospered with its A48 bypass in the 1970’s.
County executive board member for transport services and Llandeilo Bypass Forum chairman Cllr Colin Evans said: “The bypass will remove the heavy weight of traffic through the town and its pollution trail opening up great new potential for the much loved town of Llandeilo.
“Two roundabouts, planned either side of Fairfach serving the preferred Llandeilo bypass route, will encourage new development sites to open nearby enhancing the prosperity of the community.
”The hard working bypass forum is delighted the Minister has promised bypass construction will start in 2016 ending years of pollution and congestion.
“There has been nearly 50-years of frustration over which time bypass costs have escalated to £40million-plus,“ said Cllr Evans.
Included in the current Prioritised National Transport Plan, the bypass will remove through traffic from Llandeilo Town and have the benefit of improving air quality in Rhosmaen Street where nitrogen dioxide increases have risen above the European intervention level.
The Llandeilo Bypass Forum with Welsh Government, local councils and group representation, has driven the urgency for the bypass and continue to meet regularly to help deliverance of the scheme.
