Freerunning classes come to Carmarthenshire

Due to the massive increasing popularity of Parkour/Freerunning amongst young people today, the fact it is being used in schools as an alternative to the traditional sports curriculum, new Freerunning/Parkour will be starting in Carmarthenshire on Tuesday July 16th.

The Academy of Creative Arts, who are a not for profit social enterprise have recently secured small grant funding from Sported to start getting young people active by starting up Parkour/Freerunning classes in three areas in Carmarthenshire, Paddock St Community Centre, Llanelli, Cefneithin and the only purpose built Parkour park in Wales in Tir Einon, Llwynhendy. for the next 16 weeks.

We will also be freesourcing materials from sponsors in order to make the clubs sustainable for the young people.

Parkour/Freerunning is a French inspired discipline which teaches you to move from A to B in the most fluid, efficient and quiet way possible. It encompasses conditioning, stretching, and an element of gymnastics. It is designed to build strength, physical vocabulary, self awareness and fitness as well as eliminate those over reactive fears that we all possess when faced with mental barriers.

The Freerunning classes will be held under the guidance of Mike Newman (Kinetics). Mike is ADAPT qualified and is also a 5X60 officer. Mike’s coaching processes and techniques have been tried and tested in schools and alongside local authorities throughout Wales over the last 3 years with a 100% success rate and a 0% accident rate!

Classes are as follows:

• Tuesdays. Paddock St Community Centre 4.30-­‐6pm
• Wednesdays. Cefneithin Hall 4.30-­‐6pm
• Fridays. Parkour Park, Tir Einon SA149DF 4.30-­‐6pm
