AN appeal is being made to people making the most of the sunny weather in the county’s splash parks and paddling pools to ensure they keep the areas clean, tidy and safe for the enjoyment of other users.

The wet play areas have provided hours of fun for scores of families over the last few weeks, and will continue to draw the crowds during the school summer holidays.

However, the council’s Grounds Maintenance team, part of the Property Services department, is appealing to people to clear away their rubbish and keep the area a safe place for children to play.

Bins are placed at all splash parks and paddling pools, and they are checked on a regular basis, but the team is asking for people to use the bins and to report them when they are full.

Assistant Grounds Maintenance Manager Gareth Howells said: “We are taking lots of calls about rubbish being left at the parks, and whilst we are carrying out regular checks and emptying the bins, it is clear that some people are not using the bins at all.

“We have found bottles, cans and even nappies left around the splash pads and pools.

“The county council does not own many of these facilities, but we are prepared to help keep them clean and tidy for the safety of the public.”

Cllr Colin Evans, Executive Board Member for Technical Services, added: “We are asking people to enjoy the facilities, but to be responsible with their rubbish.

“These facilities will get busier throughout the summer and we do not want to see someone getting hurt.”
