AS thousands of children across the county start their annual summer holidays this week, the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership and Play Sir Gâr are urging people to help children play safely.

As well as encouraging parents to teach their children boundaries for safe and considerate play, they are also urging road users to be aware of spots where children are likely to congregate, and are asking them to slow down.

General advice to parents includes making sure younger children are supervised at all times.

Older children should know where they can play safely, tell a responsible adult where they will be, when they are expected to return, and to be considerate to landowners and members of the public generally.

Cllr Pam Palmer, Executive Board Member with responsibility for the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership, said: “We’re hoping for a lovely summer with warm weather which will allow children to play outdoors and enjoy the fresh air.

“However, it’s important to remind parents of some general advice to keep their children safe from harm.

“We’d also like to encourage people generally to be mindful of children playing, and to bear in mind that we were all young once – it’s good and healthy for children to play.”
