Llanelli fire crew members are planning a series of fundraising events to raise money for twins in Llanelli. Catherine and Kirstie Fields are the only two people in the world who suffer from a neurological condition known as Fields Condition – named after the girls.

The illness affects the muscles of the body, which means that Catherine and Kirstie are paralysed. They suffer from painful spasms daily as their muscles move uncontrollably.

There is no treatment for the condition and all they can do is suffer the pain and wait for the spasms to subside.

Crews from Llanelli Fire Station visited the twins on Monday (22 July) and are planning on hosting a car wash, ladder climb and sponsored walk in Snowdon. It is anticipated that the car wash will take place in September at a local supermarket venue. The funds will be raised so a conservatory can be built at the twin’s home, which will make life easier for Catherine, Kirstie and their family.

Catherine and Kirstie’s mother Lyn said, “We’re really grateful to the Fire Service for organising these fundraising events for us. They provide a fantastic service to the communities of Llanelli and it’s really kind of them to be giving up their time in this way to help us. The girls are really excited about it.”

Watch Manager Marc Gower said, ‘We are all absolutely delighted to be able to get involved and raise some funds for Catherine and Kirstie. We all found our visit to their home in Bryn hugely inspiring. The team at Llanelli Fire station have decided to start off with a fundraising car wash with other events to follow later in the year – we can’t wait to get started and raise some much needed funds’
