On Sunday, 21st July, Ospreys, Wales & Lions hero Richard Hibbard opened a new Oakfurnitureland store on the Phoenix estate in Swansea. I had the pleasure of interviewing him.

The full interview has been broadcast on Radio Tircoed, 106.5fm, www.radiotircoed.com. It is also available on Mixcloud on Facebook.

Richard was supporting the new enterprise in the area that is bringing jobs to Swansea. He was also launching a competition for all kids that came to the store. The prize was something that money cannot buy, a training session with Richard Hibbard!

Richard is an extremely affable and instantly likeable person. He does not seem to fully appreciate how he has helped shape history by being part of a successful Lions touring side.

He spoke candidly about how much fun the tour was and stressed that there is definitely a place for such a representative side in the modern, professional era. The opportunity to spend time & play with players from the other countries is invaluable and one you would not get anywhere else.

The good news for all Ospreys fans is that Richard did not pick up any injuries on the trip and is looking forward to the start of the new season. He has also committed his future to them for the next couple of years, so will not be part of the player drain that depletes the regional sides.

Richard then spent a lot of time signing autographs & having his photo taken, giving time to all fans.

I am a Scarlets fan but have to admit, Richard is a truly nice guy.

The upcoming season should be a classic and the battle for the Hooker’s berth in the Wales squad will be hotly contested.
