A SMALL fleet of ‘Green Machines’ are helping to clean up our streets.
The compact sweepers (pictured) are used daily in Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford town centres to keep the busy areas rubbish-free.
The council’s Street Scene division has a cleansing staff of 53 and on average 40 tonnes of litter is removed every week in Carmarthenshire at a cost of over £2.2 million per year.
Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “Our staff do a fantastic job all year round; they work 365 days of the year – even on Christmas Day – and are out in all types of weather conditions.
“Our aim is to provide a flexible and responsive cleansing service; targeting the areas where it is needed the most and maintaining high cleanliness standards throughout the county.”
