THE longest toboggan ride in Wales, the Cobra at Pembrey Country Park, has been recording as many as a 1,000 rides a day over the recent hot weather weekends.

Described as the ultimate toboggan experience, the park’s exhilarating attraction has notched up a staggering 1.4million (1,139,829) rides since it opened in 1994.

The toboggan is constructed around the 130-metre main slope of Pembrey Ski, which the highest point of the park overlooking Gower and the coastal scenery of Carmarthen Bay.

Ski co-ordinator Eirian Morris said Cobra was a huge hit with adults and children alike. They were now organising twilight sessions over the summer holidays for the pitch and putt, skiing and Cobra, both of which are floodlit and served by the Alpine ski Lodge and café.

Carmarthenshire executive member for leisure services Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The Cobra ride is little heralded but attracts riders from a wide area.

“There are so many things to do in the park – one of Wales most popular visitors attractions – and Cobra is one of the main ones, especially for youngsters.”

The park also has great ski and snowboard rental facilities, with friendly and helpful staff and instructors always happy to give advice.
