So its mid summer, we’ve had barbecues, beer, sun and its taking its toll right? So first let’s ger the safety stuff sorted out.
You know by now the dangers of sun on skin right? So keep slapping on the high factor, make it a habit alongside regular water, dehdration causes all sorts of unwanted issues including headaches and limits function, try extra icecubes in drinks or frozen grapes!
While we are talking water remember also safe swimming! If you are tempted to jump in to cool water always check for signs and avoid swimming on full tummys or after alcohol.
Okie dokey then so let’s get down to burning off the burgers and staying trim into Autumn shall we. By now most people realise that we need to combine exercises for best results, the days of sticking to one type are over, we need to continue to boost metabolism, flexibility and all muscle groups for max effects. So get your summer playlist on loop and get moving!
If tennis and pimms are your thing try combining with yoga or some interval training, if you are a runner, maybe some dancing to compliment? Relaxation is important too, especially with long summer days trying to occupy the family and get it all done, so a gentle stretch at the end of the day works wonders for stress levels.
My exercise of the season is leg drives, or repeaters, using a step or steady chair. This will burn calories and tone legs…….. Start right leg on step/chair, left leg on floor. Push up onto right leg til straight , so you are on the step and lift left knee high as possible, then lower down and repeat. Aim for ten each side. Warm up first with a few squats and a minute jogging on the spot , and add some core work and stretch for a coffee break workout! Another tip also for achy muscles and to cool skin….. Cold showers are very beneficial.
Also remember your posture, we tend to hunch more in the cooler evenings to maintain heat, so add a layer and stand tall.
So enjoy the rest of summer, stay safe, cool and moving
