A RANGE of activities have been arranged at Llanelli’s Coleshill Centre in celebration of national Learning Disability Week (Aug 19-25).
Coleshill is a regional Centre of Economic Inclusion, which improves the social and economic prospects of people who have been unable to find and retain employment or training due to longstanding ill-health or disability.
Learning Disability Week events kick off on Monday, August 19, with an open day, when people can speak to staff about attending Coleshill, what goes on at the centre, and about becoming a volunteer. There will also be Tai Chi and woodwork activities.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday current and potential participants of COASTAL – a regional project in which Carmarthenshire County Council secured over £4million to develop a range of schemes for working-age adults who face barriers to employment due to mental health, substance misuse, learning or physical disability and chronic health – can get a taste of various training courses, including an Art Academy and a music workshop.
Young people who have left full time education will also be able to speak to Career Pathway Officers for advice and support.
Things turn sweeter on Wednesday, with a Strawberry Brunch hosted by STEPS, a project which provides work and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. Tea, Coffee, Scones and Strawberries will be served in the garden area between 10am and 11.30am.
The Coleshill Centre was funded through Carmarthenshire County Council’s capital grant programme and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via the ADREF project, as well as the Targeted Match Fund (TMF) through the Welsh Government.
The COASTAL project is part funded by the European Social Fund, as part of the 2007-2013 West Wales and The Valleys Convergence Programme.
