YOUNG people across Carmarthenshire have the opportunity to participate in a new vision for the National youth work strategy.
Youth Friendly will be delivering a workshop session today (Thursday August 22) 1pm at Dr M’s Carmarthen to raise awareness of the strategy and gather the opinions of young people.
The consultation, which sets out proposals for youth services delivering youth work, for young people aged 11-25, will help ensure that the right strategy is in place to support young people in Wales.
It is being carried out on behalf of the Welsh Government which is seeking views on new proposals to support the development of a new National Youth Work Strategy.
Proposals are grouped into the three themes of ‘Delivering Education’, ‘Building Capacity’ and ‘Accountability and Results’.
‘Delivering Education’ focuses on strengthening the relationship between Youth Services and education services so they are more closely aligned. Under the proposals, Youth Services and secondary schools would work more closely together to ensure that young people remain engaged with education.
The second theme ‘Building Capacity’ looks at strengthening the relationship between voluntary and statutory Youth Services, both locally and nationally, to better enable services to be built and delivered around the needs of young people.
The third theme ‘Accountability and Results’ looks at how Youth Services can demonstrate their impact across Wales. This is key when evidencing how they contribute to Welsh Government priorities, including the reduction in the number of young people not in education, training and employment.
In addition to the themes outlined above, the consultation also sets out a proposed new funding structure to support the delivery of the new strategy.
The outcomes of this consultation will be used to inform a new National Youth Work Strategy for Wales to be published during the autumn.
