Plaid Cymru Harnesses New Media

The largest party on Carmarthenshire county council is connecting directly with the public by harnessing the power of interactive new media. Plaid Cymru has today (Thursday 29th August) launched a new website, Twitter and Facebook accounts.

“Our aim is to keep people informed about the very latest developments in County Hall and in our local communities, with up to the minute tweets and posts,” said Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, leader of the 28-strong Plaid Cymru group of councillors in Carmarthenshire. “It will also enable the public to respond and tell us what they think,” he added.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths was speaking at the Plaid Cymru office in Llanelli, where local party members had gathered for the new media launch.

“Our new innovative social media features have been developed and designed to keep our local communities informed of all the latest regular news updates, events and more in-depth information from the party locally,” Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said.

“The internet is increasingly playing an integral role in communicating with the public on a daily basis. Our aim is also to provide younger voters, in particular, with the real political alternative of a party which is determined to speak up for their rights.”

“We firmly believe that all elected representatives and councillors – of whatever party – should be accessible and accountable to their local constituents. Therefore, we in the Party of Wales are giving local people additional means of contacting us in order to discuss local concerns.

“As a political party, we are fully committed and engaged in utilising new media to its full potential. We urge residents to regularly visit our social media sites as they will be constantly updated with information on how Plaid Cymru works for you and your community.”
