Young people from Llanelli and Carmarthen paid a visit to Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters this summer to get a better understanding of the work done by the force.
The visit was arranged with Rathbone UK, a charity which helps young people to transform their lives through learning.
They offer youth engagement and traineeships to young people
During the visit the group saw and spoke with officers from the dog section, armed response officers, representatives with the scientific support unit and the helicopter unit.
“The main purpose of this Information and Engagement event was for young people to develop a greater understanding of the work of Dyfed-Powys Police,” said the force’s equality and diversity manager Helen Morgan-Howard. “It was also an opportunity to explain why and how the police use certain powers and tactics, for them to understand their rights in relation to policing – including their rights if they are stopped and searched, and their right to make a complaint.
“Our long-term aim is for young people in the Dyfed-Powys policing area to have greater trust and confidence in the police. And holding events like this enable us to work towards that.”
