Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas has backed the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in their dispute over pensions.

Mid and West Wales AM Simon Thomas whose office is in Llanelli said:

“I’m backing the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in their dispute over pensions. This strike is only happening because fire fighters want a fair pension for their valuable work. Plaid Cymru wants to see an agreement as soon as possible.”

“We hope the industrial action taken will bring the Welsh Government back to the negotiating table with the trade union for a new deal to avoid further strikes. The Government in London has a role in setting the financial limits for devolved fire pensions, therefore Welsh Ministers must stand up for Wales to ensure fair pensions for all.”

Plaid Llanelli Constituency Secretary Rhydwyn Ifan added:

“We in Plaid support fair pensions across all sectors of the economy, and truly recognise the union’s efforts to hold serious negotiations on this matter. Firefighters do an incredible job of safeguarding our communities on a daily basis therefore we will continue to campaign alongside the FBU for fairness, and the aim that a lifetime of work should always be rewarded by a fair pension. It’s as simple as that”
