An exercise is currently being undertaken in Burry Port, to widen the extent of community participation.

Ā

County Councillors Pat Jones and John James, as well as county council officers Pat Evans (Housing) and Jo Leeuwerke (Community Regeneration) have been visiting residents in the area of Burry Port known locally as the ā€œBaccaā€, a network of streets, on the South side of the railway line, namely Silver, Woodbrook, Glan-Mor, Morlan and Burrows Terraces.

Ā

Residents have been asked to complete a short questionnaire relating to their sense of satisfaction in their community and their aspirations for future development. The outcome of this exercise is intended to be the establishment of a residentsā€™ group that will identify potential community-based projects and secure funding to make these projects a reality. Response to-date has been positive, with a number of people indicating interest in participating in a residentsā€™ group.

Cllr John James said: ā€œAs locally elected county councillors we promised, when elected, that we would carry out a consultation with the residents from the Bacca and the exercise has been well received. We have been very pleased with the level of positive feedback and support for community development in the Bacca.ā€

For anyone living in Silver, Woodbrook, Glan-Mor, Morlan and Burrows Terraces in Burry Port, who would like to have further information on this initiative, please contact either Pat Evans on 01554 899288 or Jo Leeuwerke on 01554 742185.
