AMMANFORD’S Christmas Lights Switch-on will take place on Saturday November 23 in the town’s Quay Street.

The Christmas Carnival has been organised collaboratively by Carmarthenshire County Council, Ammanford Town Council, with Ammanford Chamber of Trade and Radio Carmarthenshire and is based around the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

The event in Quay Street and the Arcade in Ammanford town centre is launching the Christmas period with reindeer, Dog Show, children’s fun fair, the switching-on of the Christmas lights by the Town Mayor, a visit from Father Christmas, live music stage from Radio Carmarthenshire, a street market and entertainment.

Added good news is that the county council has made November 23 a free parking day in Ammanford.

The day’s events include an Elves Workshop between 11am and- 12pm when the elves will help the children to make festive baubles, a selection of Reindeer in seasonal harness plus sleigh in Quay Street from 10am till 1pm, a children’s fun fair with a selection of children’s stalls and rides in Quay Street from midday to 6pm, a cookery Demonstration between 12 – 1pm when local cafes will be demonstrating festive decorating.

There will be a Best Christmas Baby Competition from 10-11am for festive themed dressed babies aged 0-1 and 1-2. The guest judges will be Huw Rees (Flash) from S4C’s Cwpwrdd Dillard and BBC Wales weatherman Owain Wyn Evans. The photographer will be Memories in a Flash.

Radio Carmarthenshire will provide the entertainment on the music stage in Quay Street from 3pm, and children’s Entertainer the Occasional Twist will be doing balloon modelling from 10am to 12pm. Xmas lights switch on by the Town Mayor will be 5pm with a flame juggler next. At 5.15pm Father Christmas will be in the Pensioners Hall handing out gifts to children.

Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always popular and helps to mark the start of the festive season.

“There is an exciting range of fun activities on offer and I hope as many Ammanford residents as possible will come along to enjoy the festivities.”

Council leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “The Christmas Carnival and lights switch-on is an important part of the Ammanford Town Carnival and always proves popular. I would urge people to come along and enjoy what the event and the town centre has to offer.”

Timetable

10am – 11am Best Baby competition (Main stage)

Reindeer arrive, Quay Street, Ammanford (County Council)

11am – 12noon Elves Workshop

12pm- 1.00pm Cooking displays

1pm-1.40pm Schools’ performances. Music Stage

3pm Dog show in Pensioner Hall

4pm Father Christmas in situ in Pensioners Hall handing out gifts to children. Main stage entertainment commences (Radio Carmarthenshire).

5.30pm Lights switch on by Mayor and special guest chosen by Mayor.

6pm Event ends.
