SANTA is returning to a grotto in Pembrey Country Park for the first time in 20 years.

Stephanie Thomas who runs the café’s within the park said so many customers had told her the location was perfect for Santa she has decided to reintroduce a grotto to the park.

She said: “I have written to all local schools and am inviting other groups to book in advance if they want to see Santa in the week between 11am and 3pm but will be open to the public all weekend11.30am til 4pm.”

The grotto will be created within the Sidan Café so weather is never going to be an issue and every child will receive an appropriate gift from a jolly Santa. We will have a Santa Postbox for the kiddies Christmas wish list letters too.

In 1984 the Santa Specials operating on a narrow gauge railway through the country park woodland delivered hundreds of children and their families to Santa in a specially built fir tree grotto.

It attracted national publicity and within years the Santa Specials were chuffing all over the country.

The train was sold off to the West Country and Santa abandoned his grotto. But he is back by popular demand using his more traditional sleigh as transport not the train.

Stephanie said: “Rudolph and his Santa’s team of reindeers have the perfect landing place at the park, the dry ski slope.”
