Five people were charged with drink driving offences this weekend, leading the county’s top police officers to remind people that officers are out an about in force at this time of year enforcing the don’t drink and drive campaign.
Last year the campaign saw 500 drivers being caught for driving over the influence.
“It’s worrying and very disappointing to see that drivers continue to flout the law in this way,” said Chief Inspector for Carmarthenshire Steve Cockwell. “The ‘don’t drink and drive’ message is one we issue every Christmas and yet on the first weekend of the campaign in Carmarthenshire alone we’ve seen four drivers arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
“It’s not acceptable to do that in this day and age. Officers will be out and about on roads across the county at all times of the day and night to make sure that our roads are kept safe and to deal with anyone who thinks they can take the lives of others in their hands so recklessly.”
