Further disappointment and anger as Health Minister’s letter confirms A+E at Prince Philip Hospital will be nurse-led…
Plaid Cymru Llanelli has expressed further disappointment as it has become even more apparent that the future model of care at the Accident + Emergency unit at Prince Philip Hospital will be nurse-practitioner led, supported by General Practitioners (GPs).
The latest developments have arisen following a letter received by the clerk of Llangennech Community Council personally signed from Health Minister Mark Drakeford which clearly stated that the above mentioned model will now be implemented at Prince Philip Hospital.
Plaid Cymru Mid and West AM Simon Thomas said:
“This letter shows that Labour locally are seeking to mislead the people of Llanelli about what is happening at the hospital. Every time, Plaid Cymru has asked a specfic question in the National Assembly the answer is the same – according to the Health Minister the future model of emergency care will be an Emergency Nurse Practitioner Unit, supported by General Practitioners.
We are doing our job in holding the Welsh Government to account over the future of the Welsh NHS. It is disappointing that Llanelli’s Labour representatives are not supporting us in challenging the Welsh Government’s actions regarding Prince Philip Hospital.”
Dian Hopkins, Plaid Community Councillor for Llangennech commented:
“In his letter to Llangennech Community Council dated 25 November 2013, Welsh Labour Health Minister Mark Drakeford categorically confirms that – in his words – the future A&E unit at Prince Philip Hospital will be an Emergency Nurse Practitioner unit supported by GPs.”
“The fight for an A&E unit on a par with Bronglais, Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals therefore continues.”
Sean Rees, Plaid Llanelli Press Officer added:
“The way the people of Llanelli have been treated throughout this entire process is an absolute disgrace, from a flawed consultation undertaken by Hywel Dda Local Health Board to the mismanagment at the heart of this Welsh Labour Government. We are also alarmed to discover workers at Prince Philip Hospital are not being kept up to date; surely staff working in the frontline have the right to know the latest developments.
We fully support the pending judicial reivew taking place. Our communities need a doctor-led emergency service and unit. Llanelli deserves no less”
