SCORES of young people are getting an adrenaline rush from safely supervised off road motorcross riding at Bwlch, Llanelli.
The Police Commissioner Fund supports Bwlch Motocross project with the most important aspect of off-road riding-safety equipment.
New helmets, trousers, knee pads, body armour, boots and goggles have been purchased to meet the unique demands of this sport.
Set up just over four years ago the Bwlch MX project was created with support from the Prince’s Trust and Communities’ First providing an opportunity for young people to experience the thrills of off road bikes in a safe, controlled and caring environment.
County executive board member for leisure services Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This is a tremendous partnership scheme that develops a variety of skills and helps build on young people’s self esteem and confidence as well as reducing the antisocial behaviour of illegal riding.”
Bryngwyn pupil and a regular rider Scott Williams said: “Dirt biking is probably the most thrilling thing I’ve ever done in my life. It is the ultimate off-road rush.”
Bwlch has a proven track record since 2008 of delivering this programme to school pupils, youth clubs, pupil referral units, young offenders, social services as well as holiday diversionary activities for young people.
County senior youth officer Huw Thomas said: “It is a project which young people readily engage in and is the most popular adventurous activity that we deliver.
“The new equipment will enable us to offer this activity to more youngsters.”
