Once Santa’s been and the Christmas presents have been unwrapped don’t think it’s time to forget to look after your property.

Empty boxes left outside homes can provide indications to would be thieves of the goodies that have been delivered inside.

So homeowners are being advised to be a little bit careful with their post-Christmas rubbish.

“After Christmas don’t stack empty boxes outside your home,” said PC Rob Chapman from the community safety department. “Don’t put packaging from valuable items out on show for everyone to see what’s in your home.

“Keep them indoors until the morning of your local refuse and recycling collection.

“It’s also important to remember to register your valuables. A few years ago we encouraged people to post mark their property. This is the twenty first century equivalent. You can go online to the website www.immobilise.com and register your valuables.”
