CARMARTHENSHIRE residents still have a few days left to sign up to a national scheme where they can get a better deal on their energy bills.
Cyd Cymru is a collective energy switching scheme, where people group together to negotiate cheaper energy bills from the UKs major suppliers.
The deadline for the first collective switch is Sunday, January 12, after which, Cyd Cymru will negotiate the deal via a system similar to a reverse auction.
People who have signed up for the switch will then be advised of the best offer, and can decide whether or not they want to change supplier.
Speaking previously, the council’s Deputy Leader and Anti-Poverty Champion, Cllr Pam Palmer, has been urging people to give it some thought.
“There is absolutely nothing to lose, but potentially a lot to gain,” she said.
“This is essentially a ‘bulk-buy’ where people group together with others in order to secure a better deal.
“At a time when energy bills are going up, it’s worth thinking about driving a better bargain with your energy supplier, and by doing it together there will be power in numbers.”
Collective energy switching has been trialled elsewhere in the UK, with participants saving between £60 and £250 per household annually.

The service is provided bilingually, and people are advised to have their energy bills to hand.
