Scarlets second row Jake Ball has been called to train with the national squad ahead of the forthcoming Six Nations Championship.

The young lock, who qualifies for Wales through his North Walian father, has today been called up to join ten fellow Scarlets ahead of the campaign.

Currently in his second season with the West Wales region Ball has made 37 appearances for the Scarlets since joining the region back in August 2012 from Western Force.

The athletic second row made his regional appearance as a replacement in the RaboDirect PRO12 game against Connacht at the Sportsground, Galway, in September 2012.

Speaking after the announcement was made Ball said: “I’m extremely happy to get the nod and really wasn’t expecting the call this morning.

“Dad is also very happy! I’ve spoken to them back in Australia today and they’re delighted. He played at second row and back row for the Army, Harlequins and London Welsh back in the day and always wanted to play for Wales.

“I’ll be using the experience as an opportunity to learn from some of the top players like Alun Wyn and will look to make a name for myself within the camp.”

Ball will join fellow Scarlets Emyr Phillips, Ken Owens, Rhodri Jones, Samson Lee, Aaron Shingler, Rhodri Williams, Rhys Priestland, Scott Williams, Jonathan Davies and Liam Williams.
