Llanpumsaint Memorial Hall have created a new heritage trail for the area reflecting its industrial and agricultural past.
The group received an RDP Sir Gâr’s Landscape and Heritage Grant to create a mural in the Hall depicting historical scenes by artist Pod Clare from Aberaeron and an interpretation panel illustrating the village history with a QR code linking to the heritage walking tour.
There is also a website featuring the village heritage walking tour with pdf downloads for phone and hard copy (www.llanpumsaintwalk.org.uk/).
It is hoped the trail will add interest and educational value to the locality for visitors and locals and the website will provide worldwide access to educate and inform visitors and locals alike. The research for the trail was done by the community.
The Landscape and Heritage grant aims to support projects that promote the area’s cultural distinctiveness. It is funded by the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 -2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and also Natural Resources Wales, National Trust and Carmarthenshire County Council.
Grant officer Emyr Price, based at Llandeilo’s Tywi Centre, who worked with the group said:
“The trail adds to the tourism potential of the area and links with the Gwili Railway, Skanda Vale and Llandysul Canoe. It will also provide material for school projects and activities based on stories from the past and present.”
