LEADING councillors in Carmarthenshire are giving their full support to University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s bid to bring S4C to Carmarthen.
County Council Leader Cllr Kevin Madge and Deputy Cllr Pam Palmer are both keeping their fingers crossed for success.
Carmarthen and Caernarvon are going head to head with separate bids to attract a relocation of the broadcaster’s headquarters.
UWTSD is leading the bid for Carmarthenshire and its hopes of a new purpose built complex opposite the campus in College Road in Carmarthen called Yr Egin.
Final presentations are being given next week and S4C is expected to make a decision at their board meeting later this month. If successful the new building would be up and running by 2018.
Cllr Madge said: “This would be really good news for the Carmarthen area if S4C chooses to relocate here.
“It would mean the creation of around 150 jobs which would make a huge difference to the local economy, and also promote the Welsh language to young people through providing employment opportunities for Welsh speakers.”
Cllr Palmer said: “We are fully supportive of this bid by University of Wales Trinity Saint David and are keeping our fingers crossed for good news.”
The public are being urged to support the bid through the social media sites of Twitter @Yr_Egin , Facebook/ yregin as well as an open letter on www.yregin.org.
