CARMARTHENSHIRE’S planning committee has approved plans for a solar farm at Five Roads, Llanelli.

Yesterday’s meeting of the county council planning committee granted a full planning application for the development at Brynteg Farm alongside the B4309 road following a site visit in the morning.

The scheme is for a solar farm consisting of photo-voltaic (PV) solar arrays, or rows, of about 65,300 solar PV panels which will generate approximately 16.2 Mega Watts (MW) of electricity at peak times.

The site is to be used for solar energy production for a period of 40 years following which the installation will be decommissioned, the infrastructure removed and the land returned to its original agricultural use.
