Social workers recognised on World Social Work Day

CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council social workers are being recognised as part of World Social Work Day.

The event is celebrated on March 18 every year, and recognises the role that social workers play in helping people, families, and communities to improve their lives – particularly where their security, safety or ability to participate in everyday life is restricted.

Many Carmarthenshire County Council social workers have attracted national praise for their creative approach to their work.

At the recent British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Wales awards, Eleri Harries from the West Wales Adoption Service won the Innovative Social Work category.

She was joined by members of the Llanelli Community Resource Team, who were presented with a Certificate of Achievement in the Social Work Team category, and Adele Eaton-Brown, also of the Llanelli CRT, who was awarded a Certificate of Achievement in the Spirit of Social Work category.

Cllr Jane Tremlett, Executive Board Member for Health and Social Care, said: “We are very proud of our social workers – as we are of all staff working so hard to support and care for our communities.

“This national event is an opportunity to focus on the demanding, and often difficult, work they undertake and to recognise the importance of their roles in holding our society together.

“They help people live safely, independently, and with full and active lives, and I thank them – on behalf of the Executive Board – for everything that they do.”
