YOUNGSTERS in Carmarthenshire have been having a ball showing off their football skills.
Over 150 schoolchildren and college students took part in the county’s disability five a side football competition at Parc Y Scarlets.
Thirty teams competed in the U14s, U16s and Over 16s in the four-hour event which was organised by the council’s sports development team.
Nine schools including QE High School, Heol Goffa, Dyffryn Aman, Bro Dinefwr, Maes y Gwendraeth, Strade, Dyffryn Taf, Rhydygors and Coleg Elidyr battled it out at the Barn during the morning session.
Sport students from Coleg Sir Gar volunteered to officiate during the annual event.
The council’s 5×60 officer Rhian Davies said: “The event is always popular but this year it was even bigger and better. The festival provides schoolchildren with the opportunity to show off their skills, have fun and compete in a great venue.”
The event was delivered in partnership with Disability Sport Wales and the FAW.
All players were handed a participation certificate at the end of the festival and an invitation to disability football community club Elfed Utd held every Thursday evening. For further information contact Rhian Davies on 01554 774347 or email rhianndavies@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
