One of Scarlets’ up and coming young local talents, Jordan Williams, has come into his own during the hiatus of the Six Nations Championship occupying the fullback berth in namesake Liam’s absence.

At only 20 years of age the Llanelli born and bred Williams is remarkably in his fourth season with the region having made his debut in the LV= Cup against Saracens way back in January 2011.

Williams’ first start for the region came on 15th September 2012 against Connacht where he scored a brace of tries and was award the Man of the Match award.

Having played bit-parts for the region during 2011-12 and 2012-13 Williams’ opportunity knocked ahead of the 2013-14 season and has played his part in 22 fixtures, 18 in the starting line-up, and has scored six tries including one in the victory over Harlequins in the Heineken Cup.

With Liam Williams returning for this evening’s clash against Glasgow at the Scotstoun young Jordan moves to the wing but after starting his last six games at fullback. He said: “There’s a lot of experience coming back in and hopefully they’ll help us get into the top four.

“I’ve enjoyed my run at fullback but I don’t mind playing on the wing. I’ve had quite a lot of game time here this season and I can hopefully keep it up.”

As the RaboDirect PRO12 heads for the business end of the season the Scarlets are still in the running to make the top four but Williams is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead.

“It’s a must win for us on the weekend if we have any chance of getting into the top four. Glasgow have a couple of games in hand and makes the win all the more important on the weekend.

“We’ll have to try and pick up some bonus points as well from this last run of games to ensure we reach the top four. It’s knockout rugby from here on in.

“We have to look at it as Cup rugby; go and do our best and try and win every game.”
