There was an amazing turnout for the Llanelli Music Scene Band of the Month’s first birthday Party. The room was filled with people of all ages  who came down to the Kilkenny Cat  to help celebrate an important milestone in  the Llanelli Music Scene calendar.

The evening opened with Catherine Elms … A brilliant solo artist who kicked off her set  with an orchestral version of System Of A Down’s – Toxicity, an amazing change of pace from some  of  the bands that usually play in the Llanelli Music Scene, and  the music  didn’t go un-appreciated by any of the crowd. Throughout the set the songs played, from covers to original stuff, were even more provocative than the previous, all the way to the final song, a cover of Blink 182’s – What’s My Age Again … A truly unforgettable performance.

The Powder Monkeys … A fantastic opening song, that followed throughout the second and beyond. A very tight rock performance that was evident throughout their entire set – another good choice of band as they played iconic covers that got the crowd rocking and singing along. Even when the line-up changed, and the drummer and vocalist changed places for a cover of a  Beastie Boys song, it didn’t diminish the performance one bit … I can see only good things for the future of this band.

The Zookeepers ... A band that has already proved themselves in the past, by winning both Carmarthenshire and Llanelli Battle Of The Bands 2013, as well as playing Llanelli Music Scene’s first Band Of The Month show, it was an honour to have them play at the 1st birthday party for Band of The Month. Playing an original song to open, Zookeepers got an amazing response from the crowd, that followed through their entire modern indie rock set. Playing an original set, with occasional covers, they were a brilliant band to end the night. An obvious fan favourite as there was hardly any room to move during their set, making this review difficult to write, but worth being stuck in the middle of  loads of people, for my to witness such an incredible performance.
