Zumba lovers in Llanelli will be parading their dance moves to fundraise for charity.
On Sunday, April 6 it is hoped people will turn out in force at Llanelli Leisure Centre to take on a Zumbathon challenge and raise money for Help for Heroes.
The two-hour event, organised by the council’s Actif Fitness instructors, promises to be fun packed with an appearance from Glamorgan and Dyfed Army Cadets and a Zumba Kids demonstration. Merchandise from Help for Heroes – a charity set up to help provide better facilities for wounded British servicewomen and servicemen – will be on sale as well as a raffle. Fancy dressers are also welcome.
The event is particularly poignant for class member Claire Bell, who tragically lost her brother, Jamie Kirkpatrick, whilst he was serving in Afghanistan 2010.
Carmarthenshire County Council fitness instructor Ruth Armstrong-Bull said: “When Clare told us she had lost her brother in such tragic circumstances the staff at the centre thought this would be a great way to show our support to all those serving in the armed forces.
“We hope as many people will come out to support us in raising as much money as possible for such a great cause.”
Zumba is a Latin dance craze that has spread across the world, using moves to get your heart pumping and feet tapping. The Zumbathon takes place in the Sports Hall between 2-4pm. Zumba classes are held at the centre on Tues and Thurs at 6pm, Wed, 9.30am and Sat at 10am.
