Latest Air Quality update from DEFRA ((Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) for Wales says the pollution levels for today have dropped to Moderate.

This follows yesterday’s warning of dangerous levels of pollution due to the South Easterly winds which has been collected Sahara Sand and pollution from Spain and France.

However, as the map shows, there are still High levels of pollution across the Central parts of England and though Moderate for Wales, it can still cause problems for people.

 

DEFRA say you should follow the 3 steps below to use the Daily Air Quality Index.

  1. Determine whether you (or your children) are likely to be at-risk from air pollution.
  2. If you may be at-risk, and are planning strenuous activity outdoors, check the air pollution forecast.
  3. Use the health messages below corresponding to the highest forecast level of pollution as a guide.

The colour for the Llanelli area means Moderate and is 4 to 6 (depending on the place) on the Air Quality scale.

Accompanying health messages for at-risk individuals*

  • Adults and children with lung problems, and adults with heart problems, who experience symptoms, should consider reducing strenuous physical activity, particularly outdoors.

Accompanying health messages for the general population

  • Enjoy your usual outdoor activities.

*Adults and children with heart or lung problems are at greater risk of symptoms. Follow your doctor’s usual advice about exercising and managing your condition. It is possible that very sensitive individuals may experience health effects even on Low air pollution days. Anyone experiencing symptoms should follow the guidance provided below.
