A Nicaraguan based musician will be welcomed at Llanelli Folk Club on 16 April.
Paul Baker Hernandez, originally from Scotland but living in Nicaragua for over 20 years, will be touring the UK bringing a blend of Latin American folk music and concern for global issues.
He will be the special guest artist at Folk Club’s Easter Party, to be held at the Queen Victoria Club, Llanelli, on Wednesday 16 April starting 8 pm.
As well as performing popular latin songs, such as those from the Chilean New Song movement, Paul writes songs about American and global issues. He recently toured Chile when he campaigned for justice for Victor Jara, a Chilean singer murdered during the 1973 coup, and is active in Nicaraguan projects, such as Nags and Nippers, which combines support for abandoned horses and street children.
“Folk music is a vital part of Latin American culture, and this will be a great opportunity to hear the music from someone who has experienced the culture first hand.” says Malcolm Boorer, Llanelli based film maker who documented some of Paul’s recent Chile visit.
The venue for the Folk Club is the Queen Victoria Club Road in Queen Victoria Road, Llanelli, SA15 2TL.
Paul’s tour continues with concerts in Machynlleth on 19 April and Aberystwyth on 20 April.
