The red carpet was out to welcome Llanelli Town Mayor Cllr Mike Burns and his consort, Multicultural Network Chair Ann Evans, Gwalia Directors and staff and community members for the Premier of the film Tak Polska(Yes Poland)

The film has been part of a European Union, Youth in Action Project with partners at the Llanelli Foyer in Station Road, Llanelli and in Gdansk in Poland.

The young people from the Llanelli Foyer made 2 films, one about the Polish community in Llanelli and then this was followed by a visit to their Polish Project Partners in Gdansk to film part 2.This part of the film looked at the history of Gdansk and explored young people’s views in Poland to topics such as their history, culture, job prospects and Poland’s role in the European Union.

The Premier was a chance to show the films in public for the first time and to hear from the people involved in the Project about what they had learnt making the films and also doing the background research. In particular the fact that despite the many links with Poland and the large Polish community in Llanelli not much is known of the History, Heritage and Culture of Poland.

The event that was held Llanelli’s Selwyn Samuel Centre featured a buffet meal and a fund raising auction with the Rev Eldon Phillips as the auctioneer. The auction items were all donated by local companies and community members who were keen to support the Project.

Tak Polska Project Coordinator ,Doug Terry was happy to report that over £500 had been raised on the night and that this will be used for the ongoing work at the Llanelli Foyer including the provision of garden space.

In his speech at the Premier, Mr Terry thanked all the people, both in Llanelli and Gdansk who had contributed to the Project, especially the young people involved, who had worked so hard. Project Coach Paolo Piana added “There has often been a negative image of Station Road in some people’s mind, the success for this Project has shown what a huge contribution young people from Station Road are making to the community”
