Llanelli Leisure Centre swimming pool is due to reopen by mid July following major repairs.

Work is now scheduled to start at the county council facility which will cost around £300,000.

Damage was caused to the building during storms and high winds with the swimming pool atrium and flat roof areas of most concern.

The pool has had to be closed ever since, all clients including swimming clubs, schools and those who have booked swimming lessons have been contacted and alternative arrangements made.

At a meeting of full council this week regeneration director Dave Gilbert told members: “We have put the money together for the repair work and it is scheduled to go ahead very shortly. It will take around 10 weeks to complete.”

Leisure services manager Carl Daniels said work was due to be completed by the second week of July.

Executive board member Cllr Meryl Gravell added: “We apologise for the inconvenience whilst work is carried out, unfortunately the damage was quite severe and costly.

“We are optimistic that the pool will reopen to the public by mid July in time for the school summer holidays.”

Regular updates will be publicised via Facebook, Carmarthenshire Sport and Leisure and Twitter @sportcarms.
